Meet Poppy

Poppy the labradoodle

Meet Poppy

She's in every painting. She's also probably behind you in the coffee queue.

Poppy is a labradoodle, and my first born.

Her interests, in her own order of importance: food, car rides, walks, and food again. She has opinions about all four.

She has flown on a plane. She has been to the Gold Coast. She was, by all accounts, extremely relaxed about both. There is a long list of Australian places still to get to, and she has made it clear she expects to come along.

The rest of the time she's somewhere around Melbourne, usually in the city, usually being told she's beautiful by strangers. She has never once disagreed.

How it started

It started by accident.

I was painting a scene I'd carried home from a trip, and something about it felt unfinished. Not technically — emotionally. It was a place, and it wasn't yet a memory.

So I put Poppy in it.

And that was it. The painting stopped being somewhere I'd been and became somewhere we'd been. Now she's in every single one. Sometimes right in the foreground. Sometimes you'll live with the painting a week before you find her.

She's become my signature. Other artists sign the corner. I hide a labradoodle.

Every painting has her in it. The difficulty varies.

Easy to spot

She’s right there. No hunting required.

Look closer

In plain sight, but you’ll scan past her twice.

Tricky one

Settle in.

Every painting on the site tells you which one it is. No painting has ever shipped without her.

Have a go

Often spotted in Melbourne CBD. Always spotted in the paintings. Eventually.

Where's Poppy off to next?

Join the Poppy Hunt Club and I'll show you each new painting before anyone else — plus where she's hiding in it, if you give up.
